I have a condition called Sibo. The good gut bacteria versus the bad gut bacteria battle that is going on in my body physically and metaphysically (more on that in another post, perhaps) has culminated in the need to go on a cocktail of antibiotics.
One of those antibiotics, rifaximin, which per my insurance HMO, required a prior authorization by my doctor. Okay, that sounded reasonable. Not!
Let’s back up. When I went to CVS yesterday to pick up the two antibiotics my doctor prescribed I was told that the rifaximin needs the authorization (but the cash price if I wanted it was $2682). Yes you read that correctly.
The other antibiotic I was picking up was $3. So I went home with the $3 medication. And texted the doctor and told him the rifaximin was more than my rent and I was starting the other one only. Of course, like any reasonable person. He texted back with an “Ugh, sometimes the insurance companies don’t like to approve that one.”
So this morning I called the insurance company. Maybe it’s not their fault. Maybe it is. They told me it has to do with the formulation. What the F%*% is in it? Platinum from an elephant’s ass? But they told me it would be approved with a prior authorization. Yeah! NOT! My co-pay is 33%. A 14-day supply would cost me $879. Are you f-ing kidding? Forget a 30-day supply. Even a 7-day supply is absurd.
I asked who the manufacturer is? Drumroll please on the rapist…Salix Pharmaceuticals. I don’t care if I am calling them out here. To all Big Pharma - Stop raping people. Our hard earned rents are less than the 30-day supply. I would bet dollars to donuts I can go to Mexico, China, or Denmark and buy the pills for $10.
https://www.salix.com SHAME ON YOU 🤬
Yes, sometimes I get political, activist, and pissed off. 🤷🏼♀️
I can’t comprehend this evil on the backs of people needing healthcare. Sending you much love.
I love this wild side of you!! Yes, rage away at the bastards ☹️😳😡
