I’ve heard the sutras before but I feel like I don’t know them well enough and I’m not living them. I need them broken down into smaller chunks to focus on. This was great Sherri and a useful reminder for me as to how I might get my life in order (the message of the Full Moon in Virgo this last week).

My first yoga teacher invited me to live with her. She had me teaching some of her classes before I understood really what it was all about. She taught the 8 limbs on Sunday nights. She'd had an Indian woman teacher in Boston. Yoga asks so much of us. Yet, I look back on my life and I realize had I taken it in deeper, focused more earnestly, it would have protected me from much of the strife that I endured. It's nice of you to put this up here today!

Thank you, Sam! I'm glad it was helpful!! I am going to start writing more yoga blogs and gear it toward the lay person and beginner. So if this was helpful and understandable it accomplished what I set out to do. ❀️

You're welcome!!

I think yoga asks very little of us - it asks us to slow down and stop and simply breathe. But yes, it asks us to do certain things if we follow the 8 Limbs as a "strict" practice, but it really comes down to mindfulness. It asks us to stop excessively thinking. But in that it is asking a lot because people have a hard time being in their own skin long enough to stop. That is the paradox.

But I have practiced and or been involved with yoga for over 25 years and it has not "protected" me from disharmony but I do understand the philosophy (the breath/body/mind connection) and I understand how to align the philosophy with my other spiritual practices such as the similarities with the 12-step philosophy and with Judaism. I know, for instance, how I feel better after I meditate and how that does quiet my mind and gives me insights. Being on my bike is a form of yoga for me because my body is in motion and I am connected to my breath and my mind is clear and I actually gain insights when I am on the bike.

Good Shabbos my friend πŸ’Ÿ
